'Something
special’
/ A R-TIC-U-LATE, THINK,
f \ BELIEVE, AND HAVE FUN,"
were the words of director Jack
Parkhurst, as he guided the cast of
Music Man in warm-ups.
In Music Man Harold Hill (Lane
Plugge), a pressure salesman,
comes to River City, Iowa, to sell
band instruments. After much
action and conflict he "gets his
foot caught in the door" by falling
in love with Marian "The
Librarian" Parro. Hill finally is saved
when the "band" members, whom
he conned into buying
instruments, march through town,
looking good even though they
don't play very well.
The production, which always
played to full houses and to one
sell-out, ran from July 1-12. The
cast also entered a float in the
Fourth of July parade and sang and
dance^l prior to the fireworks
display.
"This show really set the Ralston
Community Theatre off. It assured
us a reputation as excellent
theatre. Now we have to live up to
that reputation," said Parkhurst.
Belting out the opening number, "Iowa Stub
born," are the kids of "River City."
Riding in the Fourth of July parade are Mar-
cellus Washburn (senior Scott Gilliland), Eula-
lie Shiann (English teacher Jan Knowles), a
"River City" kid (freshman Beth Selinger), and
director Jack Parkhurst. Participation in the
Ralston Fourth of July parade has been a tradi
tion with the community theatre.
