rejoiced, and mourned.
The space shuttle "Columbia"
left for its second and third test
flights without any serious
problems. In July of 1981 millions
of people around the world
watched Prince Charles of England
marry Lady Diana.
For the first time in our nation's
history a woman was appointed to
the U.S. Supreme Court. Also for
the first time there were three
living ex-presidents of the U.S.
Tragedy struck several times
during the year with the deaths of
actors John Belushi, William
Holden and Natalie Wood. Perhaps
the most tragic death of all was
that of Egyptian president Anwar
Sadat, assassinated by Arab
extremists.
