Two m ajor trips took place during the school year. March 16 ten students in
Mr. Som m ers’ Western H eritage class left to spend 10 days in Europe visiting
England, France and Italy. On April 4 Mr. Sommers and Mr. Koenig took a
mixture of students from Western Heritage, Honors Seminar, and Am erican
Governm ent classes to Washington D.C. for the day.
Places we visited/ things we saw:
Europe- Students spent three days in London, traveled to Canterbury by bus,
then sailed across the English Channel to Calais, France. From Calais they
drove to Paris, where they spent three days before taking a train to Italy. Once
in Italy students traveled to Pisa, then Florence spending the night there. After
leaving Florence they drove to Assisi, then on to Rome. Two days were spent
in Rome, and then it was time to fly home.
Washington D.C.- Arriving at National Airport at about 9:00 a.m., students took
the subway to the m iddle of the city and walked to the Lincoln Mem orial. They
crossed the street to the Vietnam M em orial and then walked past the Washing
ton Monument on their way to the Holocaust Museum. A fter two hours in the ' Jdt -• p
museum, they traveled to the Smithsonian where they visited the A ir and
Space Museum, National Museum of Art and the Museum of Am erican History.
Some students also saw the Capitol building. At 7:00 p.m. Washington time the
students boarded their flight home.
