Field and
Stream
ontenelle Forest and the Platte
F River were two of the sites en
joyed by students.
Leaving at 4 a.m., the English Lit
erature class went to explore the beau
ty of Fontenelle Forest.
Ruth Borsheim, English Lit. teacher,
felt there was a need for students to
come in contact with nature.
The hike was taken in connection
with the students’ study of romantic
poets and the Romantic movement.
Borsheim had sponsored the hike for
over ten years.
Canoeing down the Platte River was
also experienced by many students.
Anyone wishing to attend the canoe
trip had to take a swimming test. After
passing, students paid a fee of $20.
Students staked up tents and spent
the night enjoying the outdoors.
Hiking, canoeing, exploring, and
camping offered students a taste of
the “natural” life.
H aving a great tim e! Students paddle down the Platte
River while on the canoe trip.
