T attitude, with the emphasis on
TEAM made the Ralston Rams a
surprise contender for state honors. An
easy first-game win against arch-rival
Papio excited faAs and players. After a
devastating loss to Burke, it seemed
the Rams got it all together, using
TEAM determination to win the rest of
the season games with surprising upsets
over Millard and Westside.
The Millard game, with two
touchdowns scored in the last two
minutes of play, was a thriller. Excited
fans remained in the stands talking
about the outstanding effort after both
teams had left the field.
An unusual sequence of events led
Ralston to the state playoffs. The Rams
met Westside in the first round of the
playoffs, losing by a touchdown.
Seniors recognized included: Tom
Conway, honorable mention All-Metro;
Scott Cortese, Inspirational Award;
Dana Davenport, MVP, second team
All-Metro, Sun Player of the Week,
first team state and chosen to play in
the Shrine Bowl; Craig Flemming,
honorable mention All-Metro; Casey
Johnson, outstanding defensive back;
Rich Pollok, honorable mention All
metro, and Dan Taylor, honorable-
mention All-Metro.
Juniors included: Glenn Carlson,
honorable mention All-Metro; Mike
Huff, outstanding back, first team All-
Metro, Coca-Cola Player of the Week,
and honorable mention class A for
state; and Dave Janecek outstanding
defensive lineman, first team All-Metro
and Mike Wozny, Sun Player of the
Week.
“I was extremely pleased and happy
with what was accomplished,” said
Coach Osborne. “We had great
attitudes and the coaches felt that that
was what contributed to our success.”
