C improvement were the words
used by the j.v., reserve, and freshmen
football coaches to describe the football
season.
J.V. coaches Mike Barada and Gary
Waldron agreed the team showed
improvement in each game during the
season, while gaining experience and
maturity. The team ended the season
with a 3 - 4 record.
Outstanding offensive players were
junior Mike Lyman, leading rusher, and
Ken Schaefer, noted for leadership.
Juniors John Freudenthal and Steve
Hultberg were chosen as the
outstanding defensive players.
Highlights of the season were the
offensive line, which averaged more
than 250 yards per game, and the
defense, which held three opponents to
a touchdown or less.
The reserve football team, coached
by Duane Ross and Dan Meyer, ended
the season with a 3-3-1 record.
Leading the scoring and rushing
offense was sophomore Jim Palensky
with sophomore Tom Madsen
averaging the most pass receptions.
“The goals we as coaches and
players set were not always met in
reference to a win-loss record, but the
season represented a very rewarding
experience,” said Ross.
The freshmen team, coached by
Larry Hill and Dan Mussman, ended
the season with a 2-5-1 record.
Outstanding defensive players were
Bill Jameson and John Chadwell. Jim
Dailey and Tracey Morey were the
outstanding offensive players.
“After being out of the game for 15
years, I found that there were many
aspects of the game which had
changed. It was definitely a learning
experience for myself and Coach
Mussman,” said Coach Hill. “1 did
enjoy the opportunity to work with the
boys on the team.”
