Formal
Prom was held outside the school building for the
first time in two years. It was held at the Stockyard
Exchange Ballroom on Saturday, April 15. Junior
Peg Luebbert, Prom Chairperson, said the Stock
yard’s 10th floor ballroom was chosen over the UNO
Ballroom because of better parking facilities and a
better ballroom.
Prom Sponsor John Morrissey said the Stock-
yard Ballroom’s rental charge of $1,100 included the
service of five security guards, two bartenders, table
set-up, pop, hors d’oeuvres and janitorial services.
The Prom theme was “A Moment in Time”. At the
ballroom, the theme was carried out by a rainbow-
colored balloon arch suspended above the dance
floor. Table decorations were created by Luebbert,
Brad Beckman, Mary Dillon and Carry Findeis, all
juniors.
Tickets, which were souvenir keychains, sold for
$10 in advance and $12 at the door. Four hundred
people attended Prom. The first 300 people who
came to the dance received a frosted tumbler.
When the idea for complimentary glasses first
came up, Luebbert said the original design was a
wine glass. The Prom Committee was then ap
proached by the coordinators of the drug-alcohol free
month, Bev Johnson and Kathy Thomas. They
asked the committee to use a tumbler instead of a
wine glass, Luebbert said.
“This way, your highness,” says
Prom King Dave Ost to Queen
Elaine Ayers.
