A transport masterplan was developed for the City of Kigali in Rwanda. The
masterplan addressed significant expected economic growth in the city. The plan
was supported by Macro Demand Model.
The road network demand model was used to assess the re-routing of traffic as a
result of the socio-economic development plan, planned road network
improvements and other demand management interventions. The model is based
in the PTV Visum software.In addition, a high-level sketch planning approach was
followed to recommend a public transport strategy. The strategy took account of
various public transport Proposals including a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), cable car
and Private Rapid Transit (pod) proposal. A micro-simulation model of two
focussed corridors was developed within the PTV Vissim software to form the
geometric design of proposed road based capacity improvements.
