2018 ANNUAL REPORT
From the President,
Sharon B. Falby
Dear Board of Directors and Members,
As President of the D.C. Pearls III Foundation, it is my honor to share the Foundation’s
accomplishments in this 2018 Annual Report. The report captures the work we have
done in the community via our program initiatives, and additionally outlines our financial status and lists
our donors.
Fundraising to impact our community speaks to the overarching guiding principles that were developed in
2018: Engagements and Commitments = Community Impact. This was indicative of how we operated
throughout the year; we maximized fundraising for programs by minimizing members’ out-of-pocket
expenses while increasing our service to the community.
Our success was based on the dedication and commitment of our 247 members devoted not only to this
year, but to the past 17 years. Our fundraising strategies were expanded to include Amazon Smile, DC One
Fund, along with our continued participation in Giving Tuesdays. Because of our donor management
software, we can receive general donations directly from our web page. We were very successful with
our Treasured Pearl Package and our Jazz Brunch Auction.
In 2018, we were committed to impacting our community through various programs and activities: over
$20,000 in scholarships were awarded to high school seniors and continuing college students; we
provided 350 backpacks filled with school supplies for select elementary schools in the District of
Columbia; and donated $7,700 to the Alzheimer’s Association and American Heart Association. In addition,
we provided a record number of seasonal wraps for students at Bright Beginnings and restocked their
pantry with over 250 non-perishable items for over 100 families. Every aspect of service impacted our
community and met the goals and expectations we targeted.
The community impact cited in this report is the result of an exceptional Board of Directors, dedicated
members and sponsors. We thank you for your commitment to the D.C. Pearls III Foundation. No matter
what challenges we face in our Washington, DC and neighboring communities, we -as an organization- are
committed to serve as best as we can.
Sincerely,
5
