COMMUNITY IMPACT

Programs

For 110 years, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated has been and continues to be dedicated to
implementing programs of service that enhance education, health, finance, economics, global stability,
and the arts, throughout our local and global communities.

For 30 years, Rho Mu Omega has made a lasting impact in Washington, DC and its surrounding counties.
That impact is wide-reaching and profound. This year, Rho Mu Omega members have donated in excess
of 5,000 hours to community service.

Several examples of our impact for hundreds of lives in Washington include:

Restored the Barnard ES Playground to create a welcoming environment for the students.
Shredded hundreds of pounds of papers and electronics to help protect the environment.
Donated hundreds of backpacks filled with school supplies to schools in each quadrant of D.C.
Stocked the food pantry for homeless infants, babies and others in need.
Distributed thousands of canned goods, non-perishable food items, and toiletries to those in need.
Raised awareness of Alzheimer's and heart disease, mental health, and childhood hunger.
Mailed barrels of pillowcase dresses and school supplies to our adopted village in Ghana,

Thanks to the passion and creativity of our members, the commitment from our partners, and the
financial support from our donors, Rho Mu Omega Chapter was awarded the Best Overall Launching
New Dimensions of Service Award for our impact to our community during the 2018 North Atlantic
Regional Conference of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
