RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
3.1 Introduction
This chapter presents the details of material used to prepare the hybrid and pure
composite laminate specimens, as well as presenting the experimental works
conducted throughout this study. This study characterises six types of hybrid and four
pure composites which were manufactured using vacuum infusion process (VIP). The
hybrid composites were produced using synthetic fibre of E-glass and natural fibres of
basalt, jute and flax to create E-glass/basalt, E-glass/jute and E-glass/flax. Static and
dynamic behaviour analysis were conducted based on the recommended procedures
stated in ASTM. Static analyses were conducted based on tensile, flexural and quasi-
static indentation tests while low velocity impact and split Hopkinson pressure bar
(SHPB) were performed for dynamic site. The detail of the research performed is
illustrated in a flow chart as shown in Figure 3.1.
