increases the impact. If you are the same as the speakers before you, no one will
care!
The introduction must indicate the thesis of the presentation, give it the
background and also state the aim of the presentation. This goal will be
addressed again in the conclusion: How was the aim reached? Conclusion or
closing is probably the most important part of your presentation since it will be
best remembered. A conclusion should fulfil two tasks: 1) briefly summarise the
content and link to your opening; and 2) clearly indicate that you are coming to
an end.
Thus you´ll get the first draft. When it´s ready, let it rest and come back to it later.
Meanwhile you can find better explanation or at least more suitable formulation
of ideas, or at second sight you will see what you didn´t see before.
The basic ideas of the three main parts you´ve prepared will now be put in an
appropriate form, at present it´s mostly with the help of PowerPoint or Prezi
software. The former is part of Office SW, the latter in a reduced but still good
enough version, can be obtained for free. Instructions for both can be found on
the web, so don´t hesitate and take a lesson. Clear and tidy visuals are a must
for an effective presentation, so they´ll be discussed in detail later.

If you are not skilled in presentations, which can be supposed if you are studying
this text, it is recommended to write a full manuscript of your presentation. This will
help you formulate your ideas precisely, think about the meaning of the words.
Use transitions to lead the listeners through the presentation. You will use this
manuscript to rehearse the presentation – to practise. Of course, you won´t read
full sentences during the presentation. When you feel confident enough, discard
the manuscript and use only notes with items, or even better, use your visuals to
lead you through the presentation.
And finally – you must practise, i.e. rehearse. This is the most important factor for
effective public speaking. So, repeat the presentation several times, speak
loudly, use pauses and body language like in a real speech. Practise also
changing visuals to be sure that you are in the time limit. This way you´ll see how
much time the talk takes, and probably you will have to cut or develop some
ideas. The more you practise at the beginning, the less you´ll need to do it later.
A good way to rehearse is using a tape recorder or to use your friends as
feedback.
