“with lower costs and less time”, due to its advanced
transportation services that support foreign trade.Du-
ring the period from 2004-2013, the Foreign Direct
Investment (FDI) in the Dominican Republic destined
to infrastructure, including the sectors of telecom-
munications, energy, real estate, transport and trade,
reached an amount of US$ 8,853.8 million, with high
impact on national development projects.A report pre-
pared by the expert, Jhonny Pujols, indicates that in
a context of trade openness and economic globaliza-
tion, the development of logistics services is funda-
mental to raise competitiveness and reduce costs and
time. For those purposes, the Dominican Government
has promoted investments in infrastructure, creating
logistic culture between Dominican entrepreneurs, in
addition to establishing the legal conditions required
to be an ideal destination in transport and logistics.
ACTIONS In order to motivate investors to be interes-
ted in the Dominican export sector, the Government,
through the Export and Investment Center (CEI-RD),
has developed a program of counseling and training
so that the companies get to know the process to
produce here and sell abroad. One of the actions is
the elaboration of a protocol for the management of
perishable goods for export by air, that develops along
with The Dominican Agribusiness Board (JAD) and the
Departament Aeroportuario (DA).The objective is to
promote the culture of quality and competitiveness of
the Dominican production, guaranteeing their safety
and the high quality standards required for export.
In addition, the CEI-RD created the follow-up Commi-
ttee for the quality and safety of exported food. This
Committee follows up the program for the reduction
of product rejected in the European Union, which has
given excellent results.
These achievements have been reached thanks to the
modernization in logistics, the handling of products
and transport by different routes, installation of refri-
gerators in the main ports and the appropriate use of
transport means.
