million) of total exports from the free trade zones, and foreign
direct investment grew to $753.8 million, generating 17,937
direct jobs, equivalent to 12.4% of total jobs in the sector.
What are the incentives of investing in free zones?
The incentives are in the article 24, of the Law 8-90.The
operators and companies established in The free trade zones
are protected under the customs and fiscal regime and
receive 100 % of exemption of the following payments:
• THE INCOME TAX.
• TAXES on the Construction, loans and record and transfer
of real estate for the sector.
• TAXES on the constitution of Commercial SOCIETIES.
• Payment of MUNICIPAL TAXES that could affect these
activities.
• All the TAXES OF IMPORT, tariff, customs rights and other
connected taxes(burdens), which affect the raw material,
equipments, building materials, parts of buildings, office
equipment, etc.
• All the existing EXPORT TAXES or reexport.
• TAXES OF PATENTS, on assets or patrimony, as well as VAT
(Value Added Tax).
• THE CONSULAR RIGHTS for all import.
What is the procedure and timeframe for the
establishment as a free trade zone?
It lasts approximately 30 days from the date in which the
required documents are received.The permission of operation
is granted by the National Free Trade Zones Council.
¿Are there different kinds of Industrial Parks?
There are three types of industrial parks: public, private and
mixed.The public parks are regulated by the Development
and Industrial Competitiveness Center (PROINDUSTRIA), the
private parks are runned by private companies and the mixed
ones are runned by non-profit organizations.
Which productive areas stand out in the free trade
zones?
25 % devotes them to the textile manufacture. Other products
are: footwear and leather goods, cigars, jewels, medical,
electronic products,software, data handling and call centers.
