   The horizontal types of wash box have vertical banks of rollers at each end and
the fabric passes up through the unit moving horizontally from one side to the
other. Water enters at the top and flows downwards over the layers of fabric so the
flow is again countercurrent. Horizontal washers work better with more open
fabrics. Compact fabrics give too much water dropping off the sides of the fabric
into the machine bottom. This type of washer contains a smaller amount of water
but the fabric is under greater tension than in a vertical type washing unit.
