To The Future and Back

                                                    By: Chelsea Olivia Leo

“Dad, what happens when we die?” asked the little girl, her hopeful eyes staring
               deeply into her father’s.

Her thin, frail and malnutritioned body squirmed in pain as she curled up beneath
the sheets hoping to eliminate the excruciating pain that struck her stomach

which resulted in a small grunt.

“Well, you go to Heaven sweetie,” Archie said in a warm tone, stroking his

daughter’s head that had been shaved clean from all the chemo sessions. “Why do
               you ask?”

The girl shrugged and squeezed her stu ed bunny around her abdominal area.

“You’re not gonna die,” he added, as he shed a tear and snu ed a little. “I
promise,” he said assuringly. “You know that machine I’ve been working on for

               the past two years?”

               “Yeah, what about it?”

Archie’s head pointed towards the cube shaped machine, turned back to his
daughter and gave her a smirk to which she responded, “Ohhhh, no wonder
you’re in this hideous yellow suit.” “You almost got me there, I thought you were

purposely dressing up as this clown wannabe to cheer me up.”

“Even better.” He chuckled. “I’m gonna cure you,” he said sternly with a faint grin
               sprawled across his face.
