CONCLUSION

The need for an eclectic way forward in order to make learning meaningful and to pave the
way for greater understanding of things around our children and issues arising around them is
eminent. We want greater accountability for our children so we need to give them the basics
of acquiring knowledge and equip them with skills to acquire knowledge, hone their skills and
create a learning environment where values are highly prioritised. We need to think out of the
box to engage children in learning in order for them to make connections to the world around
them by engaging in an eclectic curriculum and choosing appropriate strategies according to
the needs of our diverse students to help them cope in the VUCA world. As such, an elective
method is essential in creating the balance for our children to acquire knowledge and prepare
themselves for an uncertain future. “Individuals have to learn to think and act in a more
integrated way, taking into account the interconnections and inter-relations between
contradictory or incompatible ideas, logics and positions, from both short and long-term
perspectives. In other words, they have to be systems thinkers” (OECD, 2018).
