World President Dawn’s Visit
. By Marie Luce Chang-Ko
She is definitely one of the most intriguing high-profile persons I have
ever had the chance to meet. She is indeed very warm and down-to-
earth. However, my main take-back from this event is the reminder of
keeping things simple.
She spoke about several of the most interesting projects she worked
on and in all of them, the solutions were simple and yet amazingly
efficient. Simple logs can help children get to school, in some places; a
dustbin can make a cleaner environment for schools. This is essence
JCI for me.
Creativity is a superpower and all we need is that one idea to solve the
problem.
It is too easy to find complicated solutions, yet if we step out of the box,
we might see things differently from the outside.
Yes! It is easier said than done but then again it would have been
boring had it been an easy task ;)
Another interesting point which she highlighted was how the events
empowered the members by taking them outside of their comfort
zones. The events allow members to run micro-businesses thus giving
the members opportunities to try something different from their current
jobs. JCI does provide interesting empowerment opportunities to its
members and those who are successful embark on amazing
adventures. How can a journey to Mexico not be exciting?
The final point was the importance of making an event fun. It does not
have to be serious all the time. We can promote local business but
creating fun events and competition. I think this is a great approach.
I was definitely inspired by her speech and it was definitely a nice
back-to-basics course.
