INTERVIEW WITH GAEL VEERASAMY
PRESIDENT OF ROSE-HILL ARCHERY CLUB
Tell us more about yourself…
.
Gael Veerasamy, 32. I am an instructor at the post-
secondary and tertiary level in the field of
communications and media and since 2017, the
President of the Rosehill Archery Club.
Tell us about your passion for archery and
when did it start?
Archery was always an interest of mine since
childhood but I can safely say the London 2012
Olympics is the event that triggered the passion. From
there I asked around and learned about the Rosehill
Archery club and the rest is history.
Tell us about the Rose hill archery club…
The Rose-Hill Archery Club (or Rosehill Association de
Tir a l‟Arc) is actually the oldest archery club in
Mauritius. Born in the 80‟s, it predates the creation of
the actual Mau ritius Archery Federation by nearly a
decade. Today we are 30 members strong and
growing with shooters of all ages and levels.
What are the challenges being faced?
The biggest challenge archery is facing in Mauritius is
a lack of exposure of the discipline as a sport.
Mauritius has around 6 registered archery clubs as
well as several archery schools scattered all over the
island. While Archery is a well-known leisure activity in
of those who would like to pursue a
the island, many
career in the sport do not know who to talk to.
Thankfully the internet is helping bridging this gap.
