                      Sybil Kathigasu was born in Medan, Indonesia on 3 September 1899. She was a


                nurse, a midwife and a freedom f ghter. She married Dr Clement Kathigasu in 1919. They

                ran a clinic in Ipoh from 1926 till the Japanese Occupation of Malaya in 1941. Sybil and her

                husband secretly provided medical services and gave information to the people who were

                f ghting the Japanese. However, in 1943, they were arrested. Sybil remained courageous
