Candidates who wish to follow a staged assessment route to A Level should take the AS qualification first
(Components 1 and 2). They are then only required to take Components 3.
Rules of Combination
There are two assessment pathways available to candidates.
A Level candidates may elect to take
• Components 1 and 2 at an earlier session than components 3 or
• Take all components in the same session
A2 Level
There are two assessment pathways available to candidates.
A2 Level comprises three components:
Component 1: Coursework (25%) – Externally assessed by CAIE
Component 2: Externally Set Assignment (25%) – Externally assessed by CAIE
Component 3: Personal Investigation (50%) – Externally assessed by CIE
(A Level candidates take Components 1, 2 and 3 = 100%)
Advanced Subsidiary comprises the following two components:
Component 1: Coursework (25%) – Externally assessed by CIE
Component 2: Externally Set Assignment (25%) – Externally assessed by CIE
(AS candidates take Component 1 and 2 only = 50%)
Recommended
Pupils should take every opportunity outside of school hours to familiarise themselves with relevant artistic
imagery available by visiting Art museums, Exhibitions and Art Galleries. Gathering primary research and
information by taking photographs and sketching, and secondary research using the internet together with
reading of relevant books are highly recommended.
