BY; WONG JUN HOE
Hi everyone! I'm Wong Jun Hoe, a student from the class of 2020 of Tenby International School
Setia EcoHill. I'm currently a first-year mechanical engineering student at the University of
Nottingham Malaysia.
My 4-year journey with Tenby has been astounding, inspiring, eye-opening, but all the more
motivational. Constant support from the teachers at Tenby along with their scholastic
excellence and teaching experience has helped me find my true academic potential, achieving
grades I never thought I could, and this sole achievement has helped me pave out many
opportunities for my future.
Like many, I couldn't make up my mind for my career choice as my time at Tenby grew shorter,
but the career guidance sessions at Tenby has helped a lot of us make decisions we never
previously could and provided us with a tremendous amount of advice for our future, making it
clear to me that I wanted to pursue a major in engineering. With this, I went on to study my
recently completed Foundation in Engineering course.
Having a fresh start at university, the academic knowledge you're expected to master in a short
amount of time is twice the amount in secondary school. Fortunately, Tenby has been
preparing us by providing tasks and challenges that mimic the difficulty that we would be
facing in university, making it easier for us to quickly match the pace required.
Currently, I'm also a core member of a freshly established non-governmental organization,
namely Youthnited Vision, a youth-led team consisting of 11 to 18-year-old students. We aim to
make a positive impact in the world by promoting youth involvement in the steps of achieving
the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We hold free monthly webinars for
children and teenagers with professional speakers from different organisations that promote
the SDGs, motivating the youth of our generation to take actions of their own. We've also had
fundraising events in the past where we've raised over RM 10,000 for Greater Action, a
charitable registered organization dedicated to supporting vulnerable communities in Malaysia.
We're still growing in numbers and will run even more projects in the future, aiming towards
achieving a sustainable environment. I am thankful for all that I have learnt at Tenby, acquiring
the essential academic and social skills required to be a better individual. I look forward to
being a part of Tenby's Alumni Association and taking part in its future projects!
