Hello everyone, I'm Shawn Tan Yoong Sern (he/him), and I was in the class of 2019 of Tenby
International School Setia Ecohill. My three years in Tenby have been a challenging yet fulfilling
experience for me. There are enormous opportunities for students to reap and step out from

their comfort zone. In my experience, I partook in Model United Nations (MUN) as an observer in
Tenby Kuala Lumpur Model United Nations 2017. MUN is a platform where youths represent
countries or representatives to debate on often controversial issue(s) and find consensus-based
solutions. It is this platform that Tenby has given that I have joined 11 other conferences since
then, with seven recognitions ranging from Best Delegate to the Best Position Paper.

While MUN has fostered my research and analytical skills, and built my foundational confidence
in public speaking and negotiation, I believe it has let me to self-realise myself and my personal
and professional goals. With my supportive teachers in Tenby, I have joined with my fellow

friends to create an impactful journey for Tenbyians under my term as a President of the
Student Council for two years, and President of the MUN Club for a year. Among activities
executed are the Christmas Bazaar, the United Nations Challenge and annual social nights.

After graduating from the class of 2019 from IGCSEs, I have contemplated on what venture to

pursue for my professional career. While MUN has brought me to the realm of international
relations, I was convinced that the human rights-related topics under MUN has led me to pursue
law at Brickfields Asia College. Being exposed to the diversity of people's backgrounds, I strive

to educate myself and the society on the injustices and experiences of marginalised
communities and seeks to understand how it has been like this in the first place. Since then, I
have undertaken several media and leadership roles in college, such as under Manushya
Foundation, Asian Law Students’ Association, Amnesty International Malaysia, and co-founding

the Council on International Law and Diplomacy.

I am beyond grateful for Tenby's opportunities and support to me during my stay. I am sure that
Tenby today has a myriad of possibilities ahead for prospective students ahead, and I would like

to take this chance to thank my thoughtful teachers, supportive friends and acquaintances, and
my family who had never doubted my achievements. Feel free to connect with me!
