2) The influence of Buddhism was appeared in Tagore family since his father’s
friends were Buddhist philosophers. Many his co-workers are famous Buddhists, they
always produced several works on Buddhism together. Rabindranath Tagore’s literary
works translated to Thai were 37 pieces, most of them revealed the influence of faith
and stories in Buddhism such as short stories called Kamalanjali and Strange Bhikajara
were the stories draft on life of the Buddha, even in the poem called Poem of love
also referred to the Buddha and Buddhism in Tibet. In Sadhana and others literary
works, he shown his view point of Buddhism in several times which was summarized
as follows; faith, liberation, knowledge, independent and determination. It perhaps
compares to the 5 mental powers; power of faith, power of energy, power of
mindfulness, power of concentration, and power of wisdom.
3) Metaphysics in Buddhist philosophy were doctrine in 1) five elements 2)
three characteristics 3) law of dependent origination 4) four noble truth 5) law of
Karma. For epistemology refers to pure perception, acknowledge things as they are;
impermanence, suffering and non-self, all are under 3 sources 1) Sutamaya Pannã, 2)
Jintamaya Pannã, and, 3) Bhavanamaya Pannã. For the ethics, it shown the way of
living along with principle of morality such as loving-kindness in four sublime state of
mind, five precepts etc. Although he referred to metaphysics, the ultimate truth in
Buddhism, Nirvana. He mentions on insight development which is a part of
epistemology but did not detail about it. Meanwhile, found clearly mention on ethics
especially loving or merciful in sublime state of mind which is always mention and
praise as the main Buddhist teaching. Rabindranath Tagore presented Buddhist
philosophy through his literary works in forms of Drama, novel, short story, poem, song
and his painting as it was a remarkable choice in order to make people understand
and inspire them to study the higher and deeper Buddhist philosophy.
