5.5.1 Industry
It is reported that, the first realtime neutron radiography
image of large industrial object is of helicopter engine
conducted by Peter Stewart (Rolls-Royce plc) shown in
Figure 5.9. This is reported on the first neutron video
imaging of an operating aero-engine (the Gem heli-
copter engine) that had been achieved in 1975. These
tests were carried out on the DIDO 26MW Material
Testing Reactor at AERE Harwell using a single stage
image intensifier coupled to a sensitive camera and
viewing a gadolinium oxy-sulphide scintillation screen
