H = D × QF (6.3)
Where D is an absorbed dose in rad. There is
widely accepted that the QF of X-ray is 1 and QF of
alpha is 20. This shown that, the absorbed dose due
to α is 20 times less to create similar damage severity
due to γ radiation or X-rays.
6.2 Neutron Dosimetery
Neutron is complex radiation therefore research on neu-
tron dosimetry is still going on. But, in general neutron
dosimetry system consists of neutron detector which
usually made by some materials that bare the inter-
action with neutron and exhibits signal which can be
related with the energy of neutrons. As one aware
that, neutron moves in different speed therefore its has
wider energy ranges that usually referred to neutron
energy spectrum. Since the measurement of neutron
dose is dependent on the energy, the detector to be
designed should be make suitable for each neutron
energy ranges.
Figure 6.1 shows the basic condition required by
neutron detector when use for measuring neutron ra-
diation dosage. This figure demonstrate that Fast neu-
tron will slow down when passing the the moderator
and thermal neutron are created, Bare detector only
