                                 Concept and Rationale

                                 International Studies introduces students to the formation of international system and relations
                                 between modern states since the Westphalia Agreement in 1648 through historical and theoretical
                                 frameworks. At the same time, this program examines the international system  in the
                                 contemporary context that is increasingly complex with the emerging  of actors and new
                                 challenges. As such, this program gives focuses on issues related to international laws, global
                                 economy, modern diplomacy, negotiation and conflict resolution, foreign policy, security and
                                 defence, and  other contemporary issues. As a whole, this program, prepares students with
                                 theoretical and practical knowledge that need to be mastered by international relations’
                                 practitioners like diplomats and international trade delegates.

                                 Program Educational Objectives

                                  i.    Highly knowledgeable and competent in the field of international affairs and security.
                                  ii.   Able to critically analyse and interpret issues related to  international affairs, global
                                        institutions and communities.
                                 iii.   Able to conduct  research to  advance their academic careers relating to International
                                        Relations.
                                 iv.    Empowered to  participate in international dealings through their knowledge of
                                        international systems and global processes, cross- cultural negotiation and management
                                        as well as strategic and ethical leadership.

                                 Program Learning Outcomes

                                 Upon graduating from this programme, the students are able to:

                                  i.    Explain theories, concepts and issues in International Relations.
                                  ii.   Apply research knowledge and  subsequently produce academic writings  related to
                                        International Relations.
                                 iii.   Display compassion and sensitivity towards issues and problems faced by the global
                                        institutions and communities.
                                 iv.    Demonstrate  professionalism and good ethics in carrying out tasks.
                                  v.    Illustrate good communication, negotiation and teamwork skills.
                                 vi.    Construct critical thoughts, policies and strategies on issues  related to International
                                        Relations.
                                 vii.   Possess the desire to pursue a higher level of knowledge in their chosen fields through
                                        lifelong learning.
                                viii.   Explore and execute entrepreneurial opportunities creatively and productively.
                                 ix.    Categorize, manage and evaluate data and information effectively and responsibly.
                                  x.    Use statistical data and scientific methods in solving complex politico-socio-economic
                                        issues.
                                 xi.    Exhibit competent and efficient leadership through transparent and responsible
                                        governance.
