Music and Ensemble Culture in Hittite Civilization

Abstract: The roots of ensemble in music go back to prehistoric
times. Researches reveal that there were music and dance ensembles in
Anatolia since at least the Neolithic Period (9000 BC). This article
examines the Hittite civilization (2000 BC) which can be regarded as a
product of the civilizations that lived in Anatolia in terms of musical
ensembles. Various remnants of the Hittite State found in Central Anatolia
have provided information about music and classical culture in Anatolia.
Written records found in these excavations in Bogazkoy/Hattusa, the
capital of the Hittites, revealed the music, song and dance practices of the
period in an ensemble aspect. The Hittite civilization established in
Central Anatolia includes the musical cultures of peoples such as Hatti and
Hurri. It also interacted with the music cults of states such as Sumer and
Akkad, which were previously lived in Mesopotamia. In the Hittite
Country, ensembles took part in all kinds of musical activities and dances,
including religious ceremony and other ceremonies at the court. Many
small states that emerged after the collapse of the Hittite State continued
this musical tradition. Therefore, Hittite civilization is an important
inheritor of the music culture and ensembles of the Middle East.

Аннотация: Корни ансамбля в музыке уходят в доисторические
времена. Исследования показывают, что музыкальные и танце-
вальные ансамбли существовали в Анатолии, по крайней мере, с
периода неолита (9000 г. до н.э.). В этой статье исследуется хеттская
цивилизация (2000 г. до н.э.), которую можно рассматривать как
продукт цивилизаций, живших в Анатолии, с точки зрения
музыкальных ансамблей. Различные остатки хеттского государства,
обнаруженные в Центральной Анатолии, предоставили инфор-
мацию о музыке и классической культуре в Анатолии. Письменные
записи, найденные при раскопках в Богазкой / Хаттусе, столице
хеттов, раскрывают музыкальные, песенные и танцевальные прак-
тики того периода в ансамблевом аспекте. Хеттская цивилизация,
основанная в Центральной Анатолии, включает музыкальные
культуры таких народов, как хатти и хурри. Он также взаимо-
действовал с музыкальными культами таких государств, как Шумер
и Аккад, которые ранее жили в Месопотамии. В Стране хеттов
