Figure 11 - Door phone system controllable via KNX
The door phone systems - except for the voice communication function - usually have a
few command functions, such as unlocking doors, or switching ‘on’ or ‘off’ the lights of the
areas of the doors. By integrating a door phone system into KNX, one increases its
functions towards the building by making use of the available KNX elements, such as
controlling the outputs of the KNX actuators to manage more lighting circuits or even
triggering other systems, e.g. an alarm system.
Vice versa, KNX can enhance its functions by managing the sources of the intercom
system i.e. the input signals from the door phones and the door panel, and process them
to KNX in order to realize the necessary controls. Moreover, KNX can record the details
of a call, i.e. date and time, functions that have been realized during that call or even the
picture of the person who has made the call, in case of a door video phone.
