                  5 Load Management

With KNX it is possible to implement load management within a project, a building and via
KNXnet/IP even throughout a whole city.
The reasons for this can be various. This could be necessary in order not to exceed the
maximum power consumption agreed with the energy supplier or to control the maximum
concurrent energy flow as a result of installed systems or network capacity.
Another application area could be the switching on or off of loads, depending on the
energy produced. This means that when my photovoltaic installation produces a low
amount of energy or my energy storage device is empty, the refrigerator shall be switched
off. This, in turn until a certain point is reached, representing a certain lowest temperature
limit (avoiding wasting the food in the fridge).
An alternative would be to consider switching on the dryer, only when sufficient energy is
                  produced, e.g. at around noon.
Or cooling is reduced with one degree, for as long as insufficient energy is available.
As a result we are capable of realizing a load shift when there is a bottleneck in the grid.

In order to realize this and further functions, either components like sensors or actuators
are taken with a suitable application program of the respective manufacturer or
alternatively, KNX devices that allow free programming via logic gates, etc.
