4.2 Centralized data collection
Another possible solution to integrate submetering is by displaying the meter data
centrally. The difference between the before-mentioned concept lies basically in the
storage and the display of the collected data. Whilst in the before explained solutions the
data is stored in each meter or separately in each interface, it is now additionally
displayed in a central device, from which it can then be retrieved via a web browser. This
means that when the consumption data of a device needs to be collected, this central
device connects to the individual meters and fetches the current data. In line with the KNX
standard, the transmitted data is communicated via a special protocol, i.e. “FTP over
KNX”. A connection is established between the “coupler” and the meter, when opening
the web interface. One practically surfs to the meter and downloads its current data in
order to display it. In the previously described concept under 4.1, the data is sent
cyclically or upon change, to the visualisation. The data are called or displayed there, but
are not loaded centrally.
