Why-Why diagrams can be used when you need to:
Identify problems that you might be have with plot or characters
Identify possible causes of key plot outcomes
Investigate plot problems and find a fix
Identify potential new subplots and opportunities for character development
Define specific tasks for a goal (either your own or your characters)
Visualize all aspects of a problem or goal
How to use Why-Why diagrams:
Clearly state the problem.
Brainstorm a list of possible causes and ask why the problem exists.
Identify which causes are the most important through data collection.
Then ask why the problem exists.
Continue to ask why until you get to something basic answer– Often takes 5 whys.
