UNDER PRESSURE
As Strokkur geyser in Iceland begins
to erupt, steam pressure below ground
pushes hot water up into a glittering blue
dome. Within seconds, the dome explodes
in a fountain of water and steam up to 100 ft
(30 m) high. Active every six to ten minutes,
Strokkur is one of more than 50 geothermal
features in Iceland’s Haukadalur rift valley.
