By 44 BCE, Roman war hero Julius
Caesar was the most powerful man
in the world. He had been made
“Dictator for Life” of Rome, in charge
of its vast empire. But some Romans
felt that this was too much power for
one man, so they PLOTTED TO KILL
him. On March 15, 44 BCE, when
Caesar arrived at the Senate, he was
surrounded by a group of Senators.
They unsheathed their daggers and
stabbed him 23 times until he fell,
dead, onto the Senate floor.
