ruled by Spain, by 1810,
the people of South America
had had enough. They wanted
independence, and they were
prepared to fight for it!

By 1800, much of South America was
under Spanish control. Then, when
Emperor Napoleon of France invaded
Spain and made his brother king,
the Spanish were furious. The South
American colonies saw a chance to go
for INDEPENDENCE while the Spanish
were distracted by troubles at home.
