Secretary's report
“Well Mr Secretary, what do the rules say about the AGM in this situation”
was the question posed by the Chairman. Unfortunately, thirty years ago,
the SOA committee at the time, did not have the foresight to predict Covid-
19. Surely a quick reference to Nostradamus would have given them a clue.
So the AGM was cancelled, but at least the committee was able to hold a
conference call. For a change, the technology worked very well and our
thanks to Nick for arranging this. The committee were able to review the
information which would have been presented at the AGM and decide on
how we need to proceed during this unprecedented situation.
For this edition of the magazine, it is tradition to publish the minutes of the
AGM and I know how much you enjoy reading them! So with the facts
gathered from the committee and a little imagination from us all, here is
the ‘Imaginary’ version:-

That should have been held at 1100 on Saturday 28 March, 2020 at the Maritime
Club, Portsmouth. (The Minutes, Agenda and Treasurers report awaited members
on arrival – come on, imagine this happened!).
The Chairman apologized for the five minute delay in starting the meeting, but had
only just arrived back from his latest round the world cruise. He welcomed
everyone and was pleased to see so many members at this year’s AGM. It could be
a record attendance.
Treasurers Report: David was pleased to report that unlike last year, no
typographical errors had crept into the figures. This year, there had been £1,343
excess income over expenditure with accumulated funds of £12,969. As there was
plenty of regalia in stock, he had trouble spending money. (The Vice Chairman and
Secretary were heard to mutter that he should speak to their wives, who do not
have such a problem!). In the next few months, money will need to be spent on
upgrading the website and producing an e-magazine. The Chairman thanked the
Treasurer and confirmed the full Treasurer’s report and figures will be published in
the magazine.
Secretary’s Report: Les reported that he had spent many ‘happy’ hours researching
the local hostelries, in preparation for this evening’s tour.
Membership Secretary’s Report: Gusti confirmed that there are 459 members; the
