Mei: Who is that person?

Ano hito, dare desu ka.
あの人、だれですか。

Yuki: Do you mean that woman?
Ano onna no hito desu ka.

あの女の人ですか?

Isn’t she Professor Kimura?
Kimura-sensei ja nai desu ka.
木村先生じゃないですか。

Mei went to find out and then came back.
Yuki: Was she the professor (Kimura)?

Sensei deshita ka.
先生でしたか。

Mei: No, she wasn’t the professor.
Ie, sensei ja nakatta desu.

いえ、先生じゃなかったです。

Michael is talking to someone he has met at the business conference.
Michael: What do you do (for a living)?

Oshigoto wa?
お仕事は？

Woman: I was with NTT before, but now I’m with Apple.
Mae wa NTT deshita kedo, ima wa Appuru desu.

前はNTTでしたけど、今はアップルです。
