THREE-TOED SLOTH 155
Claws
Three toes on each foot are
tipped with hooked claws.
These are so strong that sloths
can hang from them.
Spine
Regardless of their shape or
size, most mammals, even long-
necked giraffes, have seven
cervical vertebrae (neck bones).
Two-toed sloths have only six
cervical vertebrae, but three-
toed sloths have nine.This
enables them to look forwards
while hanging upside-down.
