Cleaner Wrasse
These little fish do a big ‘job’. Using their small mouths and super sharp teeth,
they’re able to pluck parasites from the bodies of other fish. They do this at
specialist cleaning stations, where their ‘clients’ patiently queue for a personal
grooming service.
Night-time protection
Predators recognize wrasse by the movements they make, which
makes them vulnerable while asleep. Hawaiian cleaner wrasse
(Labroides phthirophagus) get round this problem by spending their
nights in a mucous cocoon, which prevents their scent spreading
through the water.
