                         The gardens are a
                    combination of vegetation,
                   stone carvings and fountains
                  in Classical style. The Fountain
                   of the Celestial Sphere stands
                       in the Lower Garden.

         Lower Garden
                                            When the formal gardens on the land
                                            behind the palace were reconstructed,
                                            garden designers based their designs
                                            on old illustrations, prints, documents
                                            and plans. In the 18th century, the
                                            original ornamental gardens had been
                                            grassed over. In 1983, the intricate
                                            patterns of the original gardens were
                                            restored and planting began. The Het
                                            Loo gardens are typical of a formal
                                            garden in the 17th century in which
                                            the ideal was the harmonization of
