       streets, but the Zuiderzee town
       of Harderwijk is still a pleasant
       place to wander around. The
       town has an interesting history.
       In the 13th century it had
       become so important through
       fishing and the trade in dyes that
       in 1221 Count Otto II of Gelre
       granted it a town charter and
       ordered fortifications to be built.
       Remnants of the old fortifications
       are still intact in places, including
       the Vischpoort gate. Between
