Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais; 62000
Visitors to Arras are often stunned by their first view of the town’s
Grand’ Place, one of the largest market squares in Europe, lined by
gable-topped Flemish houses. Two other squares nearby seem small
only by comparison. Devastated in World War I, all three were
restored brick-by-brick in the 1920s. Today, the arcades beneath the
gables host beguiling shops and restaurants and a vibrant streetlife.
