FLOATING CARRIERS
A fighter plane takes off from the USS Gerald R. Ford, a
US Navy carrier. Aircraft carriers are the biggest naval
vessels, with a top flight deck up to 1,000 ft (305 m) long
for planes to land and take off. The commander of the
carrier’s tower is responsible for managing the planes’
access to the boat.
