ATACAMA OBSERVATORY
                 The world’s largest observatories are linked “arrays”
                 of radio telescopes such as the Atacama Large Millimeter
                 Array (ALMA) in Chile’s Atacama Desert. Here, 66
                 movable radio antennae have their signals combined
                 to generate the same detail as a single 10-mile
                 (16-km) telescope.
