Mandrill

The brighter a male mandrill’s nose, the

more important he is within his group.

bottom, the male mandrill is one of the most colorful

monkeys on Earth. He’s also the largest. You might imagine that
mandrills would be easy to find, but no. In the thick, dark African

rain forests where they live, you can’t see far. Instead you will mostly
hear mandrills as they grunt and call to one another.

Mandrills have sharp front teeth, but these are mostly for show—
they mainly eat plants and small animals. They stroll through the

forest on all fours, looking for food. Female and young mandrills are
small enough to climb trees, but the bigger males are too heavy.
