P      enguins can look clumsy as they shuffle along or slide on



                                their bellies. They can’t take to the air because their wings
                         have become flippers, but they can zoom through the sea as if flying

                         underwater. They even flap to push themselves along as they chase
                         down fish and shrimplike animals called krill.


                         Most penguins live in the icy Southern Ocean. To stay warm, they
                         have a thick layer of fat that traps heat, just like wearing a wetsuit!

                         For emperor penguins, home is Antarctica—the coldest place on the
                         planet. It’s so cold, they balance their egg on their feet to keep it

                         from freezing on the ice.
