                         I    n stories, foxes are often sneaky and play tricks. Real foxes



                              are not like that, of course, although they do have amazing
                         senses of smell and hearing. A fox can hear a mouse squeaking

                         100 ft (30 m) away!

                         The most common fox is the red fox, which you might see slinking

                         down city streets after dark, but the smallest fox is the tiny fennec
                         fox. It lives in deserts, where its pale fur camouflages it against the

                         sand. Its delicate body is built to keep cool, with oversized ears to
                          help it lose heat in the burning desert sun, and paws that are furry

                           underneath to protect them from hot sand.
