High in the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia, Canada,
SET IN STONE lies one of the most incredible fossil sites—the Burgess Shale.
It was discovered in 1909 by American fossil hunter and scientist Charles Walcott, who realized he
had stumbled upon a treasure trove of ancient life. He was to spend much of the next 14 years
working on the site, splitting the rock to reveal over 65,000 fossils.
