. Main Gate of the Upper Belvedere
The Baroque iron gate (1728) by Arnold and Konrad
Küffner, with an “S” for Savoy and the cross of Savoy,
leads to the south façade of the Upper Belvedere.

sweeping entrance to the palace
(see pp156–7). The domed copper
roofs of the end pavilions
resemble the shape of Turkish
tents – an allusion to Prince
Eugene’s victories over the Turks.
