              KUBLAI KHAN
            Mongolian, 1215-1294

               The fifth Great Khan
        Brief   of the Mongol Empire,
               Kublai reformed
        Bio    the entire state and
               became the first non-
         Chinese ruler to conqueror the
         entirety of China, establishing
         the ruling Yuan Dynasty that
         lasted until 1368. He is best
         remembered through the
         writings of Marco Polo and
         Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s
         romantic poem Xanadu.
